August 29, 2011 - Ever wonder about the different types of boat hulls available...or even the different kind of boats?
Takemefishing.org has some good, basic information about boats: boat hulls, the difference in types of boats (motoryacht vs. trawler, for instance), even tips on buying or selling a boat.
When you've picked out the kind of boat you want, head on over to boatsafloat.com for information on boat shows all over the country. Happy hunting!
August 1, 2011 - "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on." The quote is attributed to Thomas Jefferson and seems suitable advice for boaters of all kinds. Trouble is...if you're like me and don't tie knots everyday you end up staring at the rope, trying to remember the "rabbit and the hole" tie. Well, there's an app for that!
A quick search on the internet turned up several sites offering animated knot tying directions and at least one site, www.animatedknots.com, had an app that could be downloaded to your iPhone. Now that would be handy! (Amazon's App Store also had an Android version of a knot tying guide.)
As animatedknots.com says, "Better to know a knot and not need it, than need a knot and not know it!"
July 25, 2011 - With all the extreme weather we've seen this year I started looking for statistics and found two interesting web sites.
First is the US Drought Monitor showing just how much of the country is under severe drought conditions.
Then there's the US Geological Survey's page, WaterWatch, with graphs, maps, and charts on water flow rates in U.S. streams and rivers. You can search by state or stream name.
Weather forecast for tonight: dark. - George Carlin

July 18, 2011 - One of our most memorable sights on the Canadian waters was an ice cream boat that was anchored out on a warm July weekend...small boats scattered around it waiting their turn for chilled treats.
We were reminded of this after corresponding with a CruiserMarine customer who found a really unique way to re-purpose a boat and have fun at the same time.

OR...just search Google for "Geffert's Burger Boat" and see additional information and YouTube videos.
